Today I wore…Christmas Edition

25 Dec

Every Christmas Eve, my sisters and I bake sugar cookies and other goodies for some of our neighbors. We then get dressed and head off to church before all of the family and friend holiday Parties.

This year I found this great 1960′s wedding dress at a vintage store.

I loved the contrast between the intricate top with the pleated bottom.

For footwear, I purchased some high heeled mary jane style shoes from Nine West. They have to be the most comfortable heels that I have ever owned. Plus the ankle strap makes them super easy to walk in, and gives a vintage vibe.

For my hair I did a Brigitte Bardot inspired hairstyle, with a sort of beehive and of course an ivory bow!

I hope that you and yours had a wonderful and lovely Christmas!

Saturday: Steal? or Splurge?

24 Dec

It might be Christmas Eve, but I am still on the lookout for a great steal and something fabulous to splurge on. Read on to see this week’s steal or splurge!

The Steal

Chunky Cable Knit Sweater- $16.00 H&M

Steal Saturday

This sweater is such a steal at just $16! It’s the perfect color to match with brights like the red skirt, or wear casually with jeans and high boots.

The Splurge

Sparkly Shoes

Last night I went shoe shopping for my Christmas dress, at a warehouse type designer shoe store. I was running up and down rows pulling about 10 boxes before I even sat down! I settled for a pair of Nine West Mary Jane pumps that matched my Christmas dress, yet I was able to try these on just for fun. They were super sparkly, comfy and just cute! To match the fun vibe of the shoe, I chose this tunic like flapper dress, which has just the right amount of sparkle. This look would be perfect for any New Years Eve party, or just as a new look to try!

Do you like the steal? Or the splurge? Any last minute shopping for the holidays? Comment below!

Inspired by: Christmas and Holiday Movies

23 Dec

Every year my family has a list of must watch Christmas movies. This list includes but is not limited to, Merry Christmas Charlie Brown, Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer, Elf, A Muppet Christmas Carol, and the list goes on and on. Read on to see how you can achieve these whimsical holiday looks!

Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer: Hermey

Oh Hermey, the elf who enjoyed fixing doll’s teeth more than making toys! Hermey dressed like his fellow elves in Santa’s workshop but his look is a fun way to feminize masculine pieces.

Hermey the Elf

To match Hermes blue coat, try a blue blazer like the one from Sparkle and Fade pictured above. Skip the elf hat and curled toe shoes and instead wear red pants, a white peter pan collared shirt, black belt and black ankle booties and you’ll be ready to make toys, or pull teeth!

It’s a Wonderful Life: Donna Reed

This film is one of my Mom’s favorites, as she adores the black and white sappy yet heart warming story. Personally, this movie is not one of my favorites, but I love Donna Reed’s frilly and romantic style.

Inspired by It's a Wonderful Life
This dress is a very modern take on Donna’s frilly tiered dress seen in the picture above. The color, fabric and silhouette of the dress are an updated look of Donna’s feminine and doily style. To match the neutral palette of the dress, try satin shoes with embellishments and neutral earrings and a cocktail ring.

Elf: Zooey Deschanel

Aside from her rendition of ‘Baby it’s Cold Outside’, Zooey’s blue eyed, blonde haired look almost charmed me into thinking that dressing like an elf looked, well normal.

Zooey Deschanel in Elf

While Zooey’s uniform/costume in the movie features both red and green, the color combo can be tough to pull off. Instead try a fun red dress like this one from Modcloth and pair it with green statement jewelry. You’ll look Christmas-y, but in a classy way.

The Holiday: Cameron Diaz

While this movie is not a true Christmas classic, Cameron Diaz’s style is just too cute to not cover!

Inspired by the Holiday
In The Holiday, Cameron’s character is all about the neutrals. From a tan fur coat, a beige sweater dress, and all the beige and brown accessories, her style looked effortless and classy.
Love Actually: Martine McCutcheon
Oh, what a movie! This is my go to flick whenever I’m snowed in or too lazy to go anywhere. From the great cast and storyline to the clothes, this movie is one of my favorites.
This look is not only seasonal, but super functional as the main piece is a long red coat. This coat is a similar style and cut as the one seen in the film and pairs perfectly with black jeans and a red top!

Merry Christmas Charlie Brown

The Peanut’s Classic Christmas movie has been a staple in my Christmas season for as long as I can remember. My Mom still gets teary eyed every time Linus recites the Gospel of Luke during their Christmas pageant! While the Peanut gang doesn’t change their wardrobes too much for the movie, I still thought that I would feature a few outfits inspired by them.

Snoopy

Snoopy
Snoopy flies high on his dog house as he battles the Red Baron. This outfit is a simple ivory dress, with a red scarf, ivory tights, black pumps and a brown bomber hat.
Lucy
Charlie Brown’s therapist is always rocking the blue dress and two toned shoes.
Charlie Brown
Everyone’s favorite pessimist is always wearing his black shorts and yellow chevron patterned sweater.
Do you have a favorite Holiday movie? Did I miss any of your favorites? Let me know!

What Will I Make Wednesday

22 Dec

Shhhhhhhh!

This week’s What Will I Make Wednesday is a secret, well at least until Christmas. This week I finally finished a do it yourself project that I have wanted to make for awhile now, which I will be giving to my sisters for Christmas! This week’s do it yourself project’s post will be appearing sometime after they open them, so keep a look out for it!

I’ll let you in on part of the secret…. it involves parts of window screens!

Who’s that girl? It’s Jess! Outfits inspired by The New Girl

22 Dec

Who’s that girl….It’s Jess! The loveably adorkable star of Fox’s new sitcom, the New Girl. Zooey Deschanel brings her quirky charm and indie inspired style to this show, making it one of my favorites! Read on to see how to get Jess’s classy and indie style!

Pretty in Spots

Jess has a way of wearing fun and interesting patterns.

The New Girl in spots
This look is basic with a pussy bow white blouse, a navy polka dotted skirt that would pair perfectly with tan oxfords and a navy purse.
Purple One Shoulder
Jess wore this fun purple frock to a wedding, and looked effortlessly beautiful!
This dress from Modcloth is a similar style to the one that Jess wore, and to follow her style, stick to minimal accessories. These Kendra Scott flowery earrings are just the right shade of purple and offset the black pumps and clutch.
Christmas Cutie
This look is perfect for the holiday season! The red and gray color palette reflects the season but keeps it simple and classy.
Red in Winter
Zooey has worn several red dresses during filming of the New Girl, yet it’s cold here in New England! Here is how to wear Zooey’s fun red looks in colder weather.
This dress is so cute and vintage, and fits in with Zooey’s Indie style. To pair with the fun red dress, add black tights for warmth and for shoes try a pair of two toned Ralph Lauren flats. For outerwear, this cape from urban outfitters is super cute, and pairs perfectly with a black beret and some black with white bow gloves.
Do you watch the New Girl? What’s your favorite Zooey look? Let me know!

Make Up and Purse Essentials for the Holiday Season

21 Dec

The holidays are crazy. From buying gifts, to baking cookies, it’s hard to maintain your purse and your makeup. Here are some tips on how to start and stay fabulous throughout this busy season!

The Makeup Bag

Holiday Makeup
  • Sparkly Nail Polish- Sparkly nails are a must during the holiday season, and I love Milani’s multi colored glitter polish. I usually paint my nails a bright red (today I did a coat of Park Avenue of Essie), and then top it off with this fun polish!
  • Eye Shadow- It’s always good to start the season with a new eye shadow, and this glittery gold number, called Silent Night by Nars, is the perfect edition to your makeup bag! For those of you who love options, Urban Decay’s book of shadows is perfect for any season!
  • The Everything Stick- This stick from Nars is worth the money simply because you can use it as a blush, lipstick or eye shadow!
  • Concealer- Try M.A.C.’s studio fix foundation to cover up any dark circles or imperfections.
  • Eye Liner- I always love retro wingtips, and liquid liner from M.A.C, is perfect for getting the wing exactly right. But if you’re feeling a bit daring try this sparkly liner from Stila.
  • Lashes- To match your bold eye shadow, you need a bold mascara. Try They’re Real, for some major volume without clumps! Or try a pair of false lashes from Benefits Cosmetics.
  • Lips- Nothing says Christmas quite like red lips, and this M.A.C lipstick is one of my favorites! It applies easily, stays on for hours and even smells like marshmallows.

The Purse

What's in your Purse?
  • Bobby Pins- Sometimes that pretty up-do that you spent so much time on starts to get a bit tired, which means it’s time to break out the bobby pins!
  • Blotting Sheets- After a night of partying your face can start to look a bit shiny. Keep some blotting sheets on hand to soak up any access oil from your skin.
  • Mini Lipstick- Cold winter weather can wreak havoc on your lips, always bring a lip gloss or mini lipstick to touch up your look and keep your lips from getting too dry.
  • Mints or gum- Always be mistletoe ready with some gum or mints on hand!
  • Hand Sanitizer- My sister Maggie is a bit obsessed with hand sanitizer. She always has three different scented bottles of sanitizer in her bag at all times. While her obsession with sanitizer is a bit over the top, it’s always good to carry some during the cold and flu season.

Trendy Tuesday: Fair Isle Fierce

20 Dec
The weather is getting chillier which can only mean one thing, sweater time! And what better sweater than a Fair Isle Sweater? This season several celebrities have been spotted sporting this funky pattern. Read on for a bit of history and how to wear this cozy trend!

Monday Musings: Adele Casagrande for Fendi

20 Dec

Adele Casagrande created the iconic brand Fendi over nine decades ago. The brand has stood the test of time through the help of Adele’s fashion forward family and the impeccably tailored and styled garments.

Facts about Fendi

  • Adele Casagrande was born in 1897 in Rome, Italy. She opened her first leather and fur workshop in 1918.
  • After her marriage to Edoardo Fendi in 1925 she renamed her workshop Fendi, whose reputation became quickly known throughout Italy for the high quality furs.
  • Adele and Edoardo had five daughters, Paola, Anna, Franca, Carla and Alda, who have decided to work in the family business.
  • In 1966, Karl Lagerfield joined Adele and her daughters after the death of Eduardo Fendi in 1954.
  • After Adele’s passing in 1977, her daughter and Lagerfield have worked to maintain a well crafted brand.
  • In 1999,51% of Fendi ‘s stock was sold to Prada and LVMH as a joint venture.
  • Fendi offers a variety of products from their ready to wear collections to their hand bags, make up, eye wear, luggage and perfumes.
Fendi Spring Collection 2010
Almost two years layer I still love the Fendi 2010 Spring Collection! The color scheme featured easy and breezy pasteles with boxy jackets and structure skirts.
This look emulates the one from the collection and features a sparkly neutral top, and a peach skirt, topped off with a white blazer. For accessories, the bag and shoes keep with the pastel theme, along with a cocktail ring and earrings. This outfit makes me wish for warmer days, and peach iced tea!
 Fendi Fall/ Winter Collection 2011

Fendi was founded on beautiful furs, and this fall’s collection illustrated that this design aesthetic has not changed. This look gives a posh vibe with a jade green dress and fur stole.

Fendi Inspired 2

To re-create this look, try a long button up structured dress. To create a waist try a belt that can cinch and then hang like the model’s in the photo. While Fendi uses real fur, I am a huge advocate of faux fur, it cuts on the cost and the cruelty to animals. Try a faux fur stole that will pair with some dessert boot wedges and maroon sweater tights.

Fendi Spring 2012 Collection

It may be the middle of winter, but Fendi is already ready for the spring! This spring collection features a bit of a nautical theme with fun stripes and navy ensembles.

Fendi 3
For this look, I found this adorable white and navy dress, which when paired with gold accessories has me wishing for spring!
Which look was your favorite? What do you think of Fendi’s spring collection?

And the Pleats Rule on!

20 Dec

This is my second post on pleats, however the trend continues on, and looks even cuter than before! Read on for three different ways to wear pleats this season!

Preppy and Pretty

Taylor Swift Pleats
Taylor Swift wears her pleats in a cute and timeless way. Starting with a blue cable knit sweater, a mustard yellow skirt, and pairing it with a pair fo red pumps and a light blue bag.
Tough Girl
Kristin Cavallari added a rough egde to a feminine trend with a fun leather skirt! The pleated leather skirt pairs perfectly with a white top and black ankle bootie heels. For accessories try some hoop earrings and a big cocktail ring. For a rocker look try some dark nail polish (Essie is one of my favorite brands!)
Sweet and Shiny
Blake Lively looks sweet and shiny in her gold skirt. This is a fun metallic look for the holiday season which would pair well with a peter pan collared shirt and a pair of black pumps.
Are still in love with pleats as I am? Will you be wearing any pleats during your holiday season?
